Biography:

With a strong desire to learn the Brazilian based Jiu-Jitsu system, he began traveling to San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles to learn from world renowned Jean Jacques Machado (who has since become a Coral belt)

During this time he met his friend and current Professor Matt Baker. They had much in common as  friends and training partners and carpooled together to train Jiu-Jitsu and compete in tournaments. They both were instrumental in bringing this world class Jiu-Jitsu style to Bakersfield.

Professor Brown trained at Jean Jacque’s academy until promoted to Purple Belt.

Soon after this promotion Jiu-Jitsu took a backseat to Scholastic Education. Professor Brown pursued and completed an academic degree in Radiologic Technology and started his education to pursue a career as a Cardiovascular Technologist. (During College he did take many wrestling classes) Progress educationally is important and Professor Brown currently works hand and hand with many local Cardiologists and Electrophysiologists.

After hiatus, Professor Brown returned to train jiu-Jitsu at Bakersfield Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Professor Matt Baker. Professor Brown soon realized there is no need to travel great distances to train world class jiu-jitsu and spent the next 5 years studying the TruJitsu system while earning his Brown and Black Belt.

Shortly after receiving his Brown Belt Professor Brown honed his coaching skills by running a successful volunteer program at The Police Activities League for 4 years. He learned a lot about the importance of mind, body and spirt, utilizing a balanced approach to teaching kids the “Gentle Art” of Jiu-jitsu. Professor Brown also realized that life on earth without sharing the gifts and knowledge one gains from their experiences can leave one feeling void and incomplete. He continues to volunteer in many organizations and still coaches students from Police Activities league.

After moving to the East Side community to start his own family, Professor Brown noticed a void in the community. There simply was nowhere for families to learn self-defense, get in shape, have fun and better themselves by partaking in Martial Arts.  Professor Brown has since realized that the East Side has wonderful comradery and a community feel and wants to live nowhere else in Bakersfield. In order to be a great student, father and person, Professor Brown understood that he must open an Academy and start to offer his services to the East Side community.  Rio Bravo Jiu-Jitsu (RBJJC) was opened on June 3rd offering a wide variety of Jiu-Jitsu and Martial Arts expertise. RBJJC is a state of the art facility which is here to serve others. Professor Brown has brought in other great coaches in addition to himself to provide the best possible Jiu-Jitsu training for the East Side Community.
